Warren County Schools Evaluation and Professional Development
Betty Wood , Coordinator
2011 has been a transition year for all educators across the state of Tennessee. The expectations for teachers have never been higher.
Along with these new challenges comes great resources and opportunities to assist teachers as they grow and develop. Teaching is a journey , not a destination. As exemplary teachers we will always see ways to become more effective. One trait of a level 5 teacher is that he / she constantly reflect on how they might become more effective by looking at the current results and using this data to improve future instruction... it is a on going, continuous process.
As we face these challenges, our district leadership is dedicated to providing resources that will provide teachers with on demand, job embedded professional development that will be just in time, focused on the national , state, and local initiatives and differentiated for all teachers. Some professional development initiatives are global in nature and some are strictly related to the evaluation refinement areas and to the teachers personal professional goals.
PD 360- our new on-line Professional Development tool- is accessible to all teachers 24 hours a day and has within it research based professional development ideas, strategies, and tools that when used properly will make all teachers more effective.
In the last few days our observers and administrators have received training in the implementation and use of the PD360 program. Our desire is that our observers use rich resources in PD 360 as tools for moving teachers to new levels of effectiveness. It is the mission of the district to put into the hands of our teachers the very best - most effective- Professional Development Training that can be obtained.
Goals of WC Schools PD:
- To utilize data to determine Professional Development needs for the system. ( Math and Reading / Language Arts - system wide with focus on 3rd grade Reading / LA and 7th grade Math )
- Provide support for school level and teacher level professional development to meet the needs of our students and the new TEAM observation model. ( Focus on Learning )
- PLCs- Greater focus on collaboration to share best practices and to solve our own curricular and instruction issues.
Currently working on Evaluation folders that will house all the document for TEAM evaluations for teachers and administrators. ( under construction )
