Section 504

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a civil rights statute, provides accommodations for students with identified eligibilities. Section 504 states: "No otherwise qualified individual with handicaps in the United States...shall solely by reason of his/her handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance." 29 USC 794.

504 is a general education program, and students with 504 eligibility and plans are provided a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) and have procedural safeguards under that law. If you feel your child is in need of a 504 plan, please contact the Special Services office at (931) 668-1728 or email Candice Willmore.
